    With that said, let me be a devils-advocate, if you will, and ask these questions:

    Given ours is a issue-based, goal-based struggle, with Goal & Issue being same for ALL EB immigrants:
    --- Why should I expect all immigrants to wear any organization's badge, be dedicated to any particular/one organization, whether that Org is IV/Democrats/Republicans/Congress/BJP
    --- Shouldn't I be just worried about who can SHOUT louder about my issue and less worried about the Organization that's making them SHOUT?

    Hypothetically speaking, let's assume all the 55,000 members in IV are active but are not organized under one umbrella (IV). Each of them have the same problem (stuck in the backlogs) and each of them approach lawmakers. Each discusses their own personal case and each of them discuss about a solution that fits them - (human nature). Some of them may be the very same provisions as IV. But will these 55,000 people mention all the provisions? chances are - No.
    So, there will be no coherent messaging, even though there are 55,000 people participating simultaneously.

    Second, without being an organized unit, we loose the collective strength. Say a lawmaker is interested in fixing our problems - his task will be tremendous - he probably has only 10 people who have approached his office to fix the problem - so not only does he have to find out if there is a wide range of people affected by this problem, he also has to contact each of the 10 people individually. Guess what? he too will suggest for the 10 people to join forces and be under one umbrella.

    What I am trying to say is that IV has already brought us together. It has built good relations with key people in DC. It has done the ground work. Why not build on the sound foundation?

    In life we are ready to be grouped as Indians, Indian-Americans, Asians, Male, Female, Married, Unmarried, Hindu, Christian, Muslim, political organizations (we believe in one or the other - independents, democrats, republicans, congress, bjp), Unions, Employees of Cisco, IBM, Desi Consulting - what is wrong in identifying oneself in a group if you believe in it? By nature we are a collective group, but we think that it is wrong/unnecessary to belong to a group! We think we are smarter for being independent. But the truth is that even the most independent of the guys lives in a society. He may not accept it, but that does not change the facts.

    Bottom line is, what each one of us believe in. If we believe in a cause, we will find a way to work on it. Quantity matters only when there is quality. If we have to depend on only one, my preference would be on quality. I want the loudest person, but at the same time, I want that loud person to be shouting the message that I want - or else it defeats the purpose.

    Leo, this is just my opinion, not IV's - though I would think IV will agree with me. I believe in collective strength and individual's logic to think matters through (no brainwashing!).

    I have nothing more to say.

    My plan is making the following

    Movie - A full length feature with characters that represent our life (includes H1 to GC process) in US with humor

    Documentary - A professional documentary on our issues like H1 quota problems, GC backlog processing etc.

    Any other thoughts from your side would help.

    I am an ex NYFA student in digital film making. I would like to make the above two things by end of this year. Any of you are interested can participate. Again I don't need any money contributions. Just need your participation as actors, script writers and as other team members.

    Yes guys take this route .... Another workaround i used for getting H1B extension approval paper... I told Desi employer that my state requires H1 797 form to change the Drivers License... Lot of states do need that so i used that to get that.

    You have to be tactical while dealing with Desi Employers !!

    Curios, is your employer desi. Wait for sometime, tell him that you need to go to your home country and need receipt notice to use your AP in return. Catch is you have to use your EAD & AP after return.

    sometime's if they need to do some background-investigation to get more info on your visa status / educational background / name check or what-ever for no-reason etc , they just place you in this status. the tricky thing is do never know how long the wait is. ive heard / read some people have to wait in months for no reason. you should be happy that you received it in 2 weeks.

    I just called the office of a couple of senior members of the CHC. It takes a few minutes guys and it does make a difference. You only realize that after you call. Find out for yourselves.
    They took down my name and location. If you are in the congressmans district then you definitely MUST call, it DEFINITELY has an impact as your call has five times the impact. Sometimes the aides will actually get into a conversation with you and then you, we and IV get to shine. Our cause is just, our request is least controversial and if we can persuade a few minds we stand a reasonable chance. Let me share with you an example.
    The rep. from Congressman Guttierez office told me they were not blocking this bill, then I suggested that Congressman Guttierez is one of the leaders in congress on this topic and him taking an active lead in supporting these bills will convince a lot of other congressmen, so I am looking to him to lead on this. I told her that all immigration issues has been stalled in congress for over 3 yrs now and he needs to take the lead in getting the ball rolling again. I suggested that this will help build a coalition when CIR bill with most of the employment based provisions are discussed. However a movement on bills such as this will allow others to feel something can be done on this issue, right now there is paralysis. She agreed to speak with him on this and once again reiterated Rep. Guttierez is not blocking the Lofgren bills. I thanked her and asked if she could ask him to consider co-sponsoring the bills. She agreed to pass on the message.
    The other offices took a message.

    Hey guys this is interesting and useful info and AILA and AILF should take note of this.

    If they approve EB3/India/APR2004 and EB2/INDIA/AUG2005 saying the dates were current on Jul1 or Jul2 , applying the same logic they can't reject applications that were files when the dates were still current. And also give fair chance to others to react between bulletins.

    Many asked you about H1B employees...but I have a different question for you...

    Do you place consultants (and they are not your employees) thru vendor to the client place ? Like just forwarding resume to vendor (not to client) and charge every hour say 5-20$ per hour as long as the consultant is on the project for just forwarding the resume ? I know many desi employers do so I wanted to ask you.

    UPDATE: My company attorney suggested talking about this in April, and I am nervous about waiting till then in limbo - things are only going bad to worse, I might as well find a job at a place which will sponsor a PERM sooner rather than later.

    I request you to PM me if you have any leads for such companies might still be a good bet for filing a PERM.

    uhh..damn immigration process..

    I was in similar situation last year. This what my attorney told me after layoffs. They have to wait 6 months after layoffs in the company before filing PERM again. The perm filing process in big companies take atleast 2-4 months. So if they are planning to file after 6 months then this is right time to start collecting documents. For this to happen it might need little push from your manager.
    If your company is in a situation where they are planning to layoff people continously over the next year(I know one big company which is doing this) then it is better to talk to lawyers right now and decide the course of action because there is no point in waiting until april. If your manager strongly supports your case then some times lawyers can pull off tricks like there are no layoff with this particular skill set or in this division etc..

    I dont know of any big company that is hiring. If your resume is hot(has specialized skills) then put it in dice or monster you will always find employer.
    You can always switch to consulting and find consulting company which applies for GC right away.
